Henry's Bookshelf originated in 2006 by Ashley Dorwart while attending college in Ecuador. It is a non-profit foundation dedicated to instilling a love of reading and learning in underprivileged children in Ecuador. The foundation is funded by caring persons offering generous donations within the United States.
Henry's Bookshelf is sponsored by a non-profit (tax deductible), organization that has been established in the United States to provide books to orphanages, daycare, preschool, etc. so that children are exposed to reading and have the proper materials necessary to learn. The poverty in Ecuador prevents most homes from owning a SINGLE book-when parents barely make $200 a MONTH, it is easy to choose food over buying a book for their child. All donations are the physical books, not money to the facilities!
